THINGS THAT ARE SPINNING IN MY HEAD

-Obama picking an old white haired running mate to counter McCain…then McCain picking a woman to steal Hillary’s vote; the only rule of this chess match is that issues don’t matter and both parties are having a party matching each other in showing Americans how dumb they think they really are…

-Text messages with four ? marks, do you think I am really going to answer faster, does this mean that it’s an extra important matter, then what does ?????? mean…

-The National Hurricane center warning the people in Galveston TX that if they didn’t evacuate they would face certain death from Ike…then rescuers needing to save 2000 people the next day

-The Revs already playing 34 games thus far this year: 7 more than 07′, 5 more than 06′, and 8 more than 05′

-I was just in Colorado and in the middle of the game I looked over at the Rapids bench and the bench has so much money sitting down…Coundoul (33K), Erpen (125K), Burciaga (82.5K), Ballouchy (93K), Casey (190.008K), Gomez (430K), Ihemelu (60.5K)…They have over a million dollars sitting on the bench

-Young Jeezy and all these other rappers still going by Young…I mean I love Jeezy…but u r almost 31 years old…I say once your turn 23 you go from Young Jeezy to Jeezy, then at 30 you become Old Jeezy…

-Khano’s goal celebration with the musket, to think if he were a minuteman we would be in the US of UK

What Could Have Been…

By Doug Edwards

Thursday, July 24th marked the fifth consecutive year Major League Soccer’s finest defeated foreign opposition in soccer’s midsummer classic.  West Ham United was the latest club to fall victim to the MLS All-Stars before a sold-out crowd at Toronto F.C.’s BMO field.  Fans were dazzled by an attacking display of counter-attack soccer which saw Cuauhtemoc Blanco shine above all with a goal and assist, leading the MLS to a 3-2 victory over the Hammers.

In the weeks leading up the 2008 Pepsi Major League All-Star Game, a motto was created for this annual extravaganza: “Major League Soccer Takes on the World.”

The World.  Seriously?  The World?

Are we as American’s so naïve to label a side as being the “world” which fielded nine British players?  The two remaining starters consisted of Julien Faubert of France and Lucas Neil of Australia, a country whose roots were established by British exiled convicts (considering the lob-sided numbers, we’ll give Lucas Neil the benefit of the doubt).

Take nothing away from the Hammers.  They are a fabled football franchise in England and finished in the top-half of the Premier League table in 2007.  For those reasons alone we will try to forgive and forget Elijah Wood’s performance as a ride-or-die hooligan born to wear the claret & blue in Green Street Hooligans.

But still…the World?  Is that the best we can do?

When one thinks of the world’s stars currently playing, names like Eto’o, Messi, Xavi, Henry and such enter the discussion.  Conveniently enough for the supporters of the beautiful game, all these names happen to play for the very same club.  Barcelona F.C., perhaps the world’s most identifiable club, just so happened to be in America a week after the All-Star game for their official 2008 U.S. Tour, as part of a five-year commercial agreement between the MLS and Barcelona FC signed in May.
